University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music - where the music is

Music Business Area

TEXT ONLY PRINT

In the Music Business area, undergraduate students are prepared for entry and mid-level careers in the music and entertainment industries, in areas such as commercial and independent music production, booking, business management, and for work in publishing, legal affairs, A&R, publicity, advertising and marketing.

We have two “sister” exchange programs in Europe: Buckinghamshire University in the United Kingdom and Haarlem University in the Netherlands. These programs help develop our entrepreneurial and global mission as well as expose our students to international music industry practices.

Faculty in the Music Business Area have served performing artists and record labels, film companies and management agencies throughout the country as attorneys, managers, marketing and public relations directors, and booking agents.

Students are encouraged to become active members of the division's nationally recognized chapter of MEISA (Music and Entertainment Industry Students' Association) and to participate in the internship program, Musicworks, and the student record label, BlueT.O.M. (Tigers of Memphis) Records.

The Music Business Area offers a Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in Music Business.
