STUDENT SUPPORT PROVIDED BY STANFORD

STUDENT SUPPORT INFORMATION

The University of Memphis Community Music School has a limited number of student support awards available to assist families in need.  Eligibility for student support awards (100%, 75%, 50% and 25% off tuition/fees) are determined by gross household income and number of household members.  See chart provided.  If you do not meet the income requirement guidelines but feel that you still need support in registering your child for a Community Music School program, please contact the CMS office at (901) 678-4244.

Student support awards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are funded as long as there are available resources.  The following rules apply:

  • Student support awards are issued for up to full tuition (including meals and housing when applicable).
  • Any past due accounts must be brought current before a student support application is considered.
  • Application, income information and letter of recommendation from a community leader (e.g. teacher, pastor, rabbi) are required.
  • The student support recipient is responsible for the remaining tuition balance.
  • Submittal of an application is neither a confirmation into the class nor a confirmation of a student support award.
  • Applicants for long-term programs will be reviewed each semester.  Regular attendance and practice will be taken into consideration for award renewal; instructor or program director report may be required. A new copy of proof of income and application are required yearly.
  • Student support awards are limited to one per student.
  • CMS allows only one discount per student per semester.  If you qualify for student support, you will not be eligible for any other discounts (i.e. U of M, senior citizen).
  • Applicants who falsify information or do not attend class regularly may be ineligible for future student support.
  • All student support applications are kept confidential.  The Community Music School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, gender, ethnic origin, or religious belief in admission, retention, student support, scholarship, and other educational policies.

Notification of student support awards will be made in writing.

APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS

  • Attach one of the following acceptable proofs of income/financial need:
    • Proof from the school district that your child is eligible for free or reduced price meals.
    • Proof that your family is receiving food stamps or federal aid.
    • A copy of your last Federal Income Tax Return (form 1040) showing that you fall under the income eligibility guidelines listed on the application.  If your parent (or someone else) can claim you as a dependant, you must submit a copy of their 1040, in addition to your own.  Your household size must equal the number claimed on your income tax form.
  • If you do not meet the income requirement guidelines but feel that you still need support in registering yourself or your child for a Community Music School program, you may submit a written request to CMS stating your special situation.  A copy of your Federal Income Tax Return must accompany your request.  If you have questions, please contact the CMS office at (901) 678-4244.
  • Attach a letter of recommendation from a community leader (e.g. teacher, pastor, rabbi).
  • Attach a fully completed CMS Registration Form for the semester and class for which you are enrolling.  Please be sure that the registration form indicates the class or program for which you are requesting student support, including the class fee.  If you are applying for more than one family member, please attach all completed registration forms.
