 Dr. Michael Johnson. Prior to joining the U of M faculty, Dr. Johnson served for four years at the National Endowment for the Arts as the Assistant Director of the Opera-Musical Theater Program and as a Special Assistant in the Office of Public Affairs. He was the Director of Opera for four years at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and founded the Middle America Opera Apprentice Program in association with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Dr. Johnson has performed and/or directed with companies including the Des Moines Metro Opera, Springfield Regional Opera, OPERAfest (the opera company of New Hampshire), Nashville Opera, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Opera Memphis. Dr. Johnson holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Indiana University, and Florida State University.
